Premier Brad Wall of Saskatchewan presented the Saskatchewan
Distinguished Service Award to Prof. Ron Cavell at Government House in Regina on March 24. Wall said "His vision, leadership and commitment to the Canadian Light Source has made Saskatchewan the home of first class discovery and innovation that will serve not only our province or our country, but people on a global scale."

The department extends its congratulations to Dr Cavell. More information can be found here.

The 91st Canadian Chemistry Conference, which was held May 24-28, 2008 at the Shaw Convention Centre in Edmonton, was highly successful. UA President Indira Samarasekera welcomed the delegates at the opening ceremony, and Prof. Christopher Walsh of Harvard Medical School presented the opening plenary lecture. Over 2000 participants attended 51 symposia and 5 general sessions in all areas of molecular science. Four UA chemists received awards.
