The Department of Chemistry consists of 36 full-time Professors actively engaged in research and teaching and over 60 support staff, serving in a variety of functions including administrative roles, technical services and research-service laboratories.
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Alberta is among the most active research departments in Canada and each year the faculty along with their students, postdoctoral fellows and research associates publish approximately 120 research papers in scientific journals, deliver more than 150 invited lectures world wide and present numerous scientific papers at national and international meetings. The research programs of the Faculty are broadly funded by several agencies.
Many of the department members have been recognized for their excellence in teaching, graduate mentoring, research, and service. In addition to the many honors and awards that have been received by faculty members (some of which are listed below), several of the research and teaching support staff have been honored with Faculty of Science, University, National, and International awards. Several members of the faculty have been named as Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada.
