October 2008:

Congratulations to Ryan for passing his CHEM 502. Ryan gave an interesting talk entitled "Electromagnetically induced transparency: Light storage."

October 2008:

Congratuations to Stephanie for winning the inaugural CHEM 502 presentation award for the Physical Chemistry Division 2007-2008 for her talk on the phhotochemistry of Mars. Great job, Stephanie!

October 2008:

Another successful group photo day. To see all the new photos, see Group. Now if only we knew which way to look...

September 2008:

The group welcomes Derek Mah, as a CHEM 401 student; Joey Sheff, as a CHEM 299 student; and Dr. Javier Cuervo, as a post-doctoral fellow. Derek is examining the excited states of blue fluorescent protein. Joey is learning about electronic structure calculations. Javier , who joins us from the group of P.N. Roy, is looking a fitting high-dimensional potential energy surfaces suitable for use with MCTDH.

August 2008:

The group says goodbye to Sherni and Hernan who have finished their summer research with the group. Good luck in engineering at UBC Hernan! Good luck with the new job Sherni!

May 2008:

Congratulations to Hernan Martinez on receiving an NSERC-USRA.

May 2008:

Hernan Martinez joins the group as a summer student. Hernan will be studying fluorescent proteins. Sherni Koh continues on in the group as a summer student studying new fluorescent molecules for biological labeling.

May 2008:

Congratulations to Stephanie for receiving a Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Fellowship (Doctoral) for the 2008-2009 academic year.

April 2008:

The group says goodbye to Kayla Atkey who has finished her CHEM 299 Undergraduate Research Opportunity with the group. Good luck Kayla!

April 2008:

Group attends the 3rd Annual Jasper Symposium on Experimental and Theoretical Spectroscopy and Dynamics. The group presented many talks, see "Presentations"; engaged in good informal discussions with members of the Jaeger, Xu and Roy groups; and soaked up the mountain splendour. Photo sans Dr. Brown but with Elena (Qadir's wife).

March 2008:

Congratulations to Qadir for being awarded an NSERC post-doctoral fellowship. Qadir will take up his NSERC PDF in January 2009 with P.N. Roy here at the University of Alberta.

March 2008:

Congratulations to Stephanie for passing her CHEM 502. Stephanie gave a great talk entitled "Photochemistry of Mars and its implications on the detection of surface organics." Check out the movie of the post-talk celebration.

March 2008:

Dr. Brown is an invited attendee at the "Visualizing the Future of Chemistry Education Workshop" sponsored by Wiley in Ft. Lauderdale, Flordida.

February 2008:

Markus and Dr. Brown attendee the "2nd Workshop on high-dimensional quantum dynamics" in La Grande Motte, France (near Montpellier). Dr. Brown presents a talk and Markus a poster on the group's recent work integrating optimal control theory with the MCTDH method, see "Presentations" for further details.

January 2008:

The group welcomes back Kayla Atkey as a CHEM 299 student. Sherni Koh joins the group as a CHEM 401 student.
