January 2012:

The group welcomes Melis as a graduate student.

December 2011:

Alex attends the 3rd Conference on Develepments in Atomic, Moleculecular, Optical, and Nano-physics, in Dehli India. (No, this is not the conference site.)

December 2011:

Congratulations to Jacqueline Ngai and Marie Barnes, former summer students in the group, whose paper on the absorption and fluorescence properties of benzoxadiazoles appears in J. Phys. Chem. A, see Publications for details. The reserach has been performed in collaboration with Prof. Chris Cairo.

November 2011:

The research group moves into newly renovated research space on the 4th floor of the Gunning/Lemieux Chemistry Centrei (rooms W4-54 and W4-56). The space is shared with the other theoretical/computational chemistry research groups of Prof. Hanna and Prof. Klobukowski. The space consists of research space, a kitchen, a lunchroom, and two breakout rooms. Faculty offices are located in the adjoining space.

September 2011:

The group welcomes Mohammad Salem as a new graduate student. Mohammad joins us from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, which he attended for one year, after completing a BSc in Pharmacy and Biotechnology at the German University of Cairo.

September 2011:

Melis Gedik had so much fun in the group this summer that she has returned this fall as a CHEM 401 student.

August 2011:

Congratulations to former post-doc Meiyu Zhao who has been appointed as a Associate Professor at Harbin Institute of Technology in China.

July 2011:

Congratulations to Ryan whose paper on quantum computing in diatomic molecules appears in J. Chem. Phys., see Publications for details.

June 2011:

Brown and Hanna groups enjoy a tasty lunch of Dim Sum.

June 2011:

The group, along with members of the Hanna and Klobukowski groups, toured the new theory space construction - have to love those pink hardhats! The new theory space that will house the Brown, Hanna, and Klobukowski research groups is due to open Fall 2011.

May 2011:

The group welcomes Melis and Meagan as summer students. Meagan (who was awarded an NSERC-USRA) will be examining studying new fluorescent molecules for biological labelling in conjunction with the group of Prof. Chris Cairo. Melis will be examining the excited states of Blue fluorescent protein.

April 2011:

The group says goodbye to Bao and Trang who finished up their CHEM 401 projects in the group. Trang is working in the department for the summer an Bao is graduating. Good luck!

April 2011:

Congratulations to 401 students Bao and Trang on their final presentations.

April 2011:

Alex attends a BIRSS Workshop on Quantum Control.

March 2011:

Alex and Ryan attend the 241st ACS National Meeting and Exposition in Anaheim, CA. alex gives an invited talk and Ryan presents a poster, see Presentations.

January 2011:

Congratulations to Stephanie for having her paper on the ab initio semiclassiclassical initial value representation method accepted into J. Chem. Phys.

January 2011:

The group welcomes Bao Pham and Trang Nguyen as new CHEM 401 students. Trang will be examing solvation effects on absorption wavelengths and oscillator strengths of substituted benzofurazans. Bao will be comparing time-dependent density functional predictions of absorption with wavefunction based methods.
