December 2006:

Dr. Jose-Luis Carreon-Macedo (Ph.D. Bristol University) joins the group as post-doctoral research associate. Jose-Luis will be performing electronic structure calculations for molecular candidates for quantum computing.

September 2006:

Stephanie Wong (B.Sc. University of Alberta) joins the group (joint with Prof. P.N. Roy) as an M.Sc. student.

September 2006:

Kevin Tok joins the group as a CHEM 299 student.

June 2006:

Dr. Brown has received an Alberta Ingenuity New Faculty Award for his proposal "Molecular Quantum Computing."

June 2006:

Phase 2 of the group's computational resources has arrived and is up and running. Phase 2 is a 27-node cluster from Atipa Technologies. Each node consists of dual Dual-Core AMD Opteron 275 processors with 4 GB RAM and 250 GB of disk. In addition to in-house computer codes for quantum dynamics, classical dynamics, and laser control calculations, a wide variety of electronic structure packages, including Molpro, GAMESS, COLUMBUS, ACES II, and Gaussian03, are available for use. Our research group also makes use of the Heidelberg MCTDH package.

June 2006:

After two and one half great years in the group, Dr. Taiwang Cheng is moving on.Good luck in Toronto and congratulations on your recent wedding!

May 2006:

Congratulations to Dr. Qadir Timerghazin (Kadyr Timergazine) for winning an Alberta Ingenuity Fellowship - one of only ten fellowships awarded in 2006 for Science and Engineering research in Alberta. For a complete list of award winners click here. Qadir will join the goup from Concordia University in Jan. 2007 to start work on the project "Computational studies of fluorescent proteins: Why is the purple chromoprotein asFP595 non-fluorescent?"

May 2006:

David Jodoin rejoins the group as an NSERC-USRA and Chen Liang continues on as a summer student. David is studying molecular photodissociation and Chen is examining the electronic structure of chromophores for fluorescent proteins.

January 2006:

Ryan Zaari continues on as a CHEM 403 student, David Jodoin rejoins the group as a CHEM 401 student, and Chen Liang continues on as a CHEM 299 student!
