Current News
August 2003:
Dr. Brown's collaborative work with Prof. Joel Bowman (Emory University) and
Prof. Bowman's graduate student Dr. Shengli Zou (now a post-doc at
Northwestern University)
on vinylidene/acetylene isomerization was cited
in an article "Watching a Molecule Break Up Reveals How Quickly It Changes
Shape" in the August 2003 issue of
Physics Today.

June 2003:
Dr. Brown's calculations in collaboration with theoreticians
Prof. G.G. Balint-Kurti (University of Bristol), Prof. J.A.
Beswick (Universite Paul Sabetier), and Dr. O.S. Vasyutinskii (Ioffe
Physico-Technical Institute) confirm the production of spin-polarized
hydrogen atoms
from the photodissociation of HCl. Spin-polarized hydrogen atoms were measured
(indirectly) experimentally by the groups of T.P. Rakitzis
and T.N. Kitsopoulos (both University of Crete) using slice imaging.
This theoretical/experimental
collaboration of a useful method for producing spin-polarized hydrogen was
published in the
June 20th issue of Science. The work was
mentioned
in the column "This week in Science" under the title "Split for its spin."
