Carboxylic Acid

Carboxylic Acid: An organic compound having the general formula R-COOH where R represents any alkyl or aryl group.

Carboxylic acids are characterized by the presence of the -COOH functional group, also termed the carboxyl group. Colloquially, carboxylic acids are referred to as an organic acid.
