Definition: A solubility classification indicating those organic compounds unable to form a salt when treated with an inorganic acid or an inorganic base;

Neutral compounds include the following functional group classes:
hydrocarbons (alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aromatic compounds), alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, esters, amides, nitro compounds.
