After washing, predrying, and drying, you are ready to remove the organic solvent from the neutral compound by distillation.

When distillation is complete, the solid residue (the neutral compound) needs to be purified by recrystallization or sublimation.

Let's review the isolation (recovery) of the neutral compounds:
  1. Wash with water (to remove inorganic impurities)
  2. Predry with saturated NaCl solution (brine) (to remove the bulk of dissolved water)
  3. Dry with drying agent (to remove the trace of dissolved water)
  4. Remove drying agent by gravity filtration
  5. Distill the organic solvent to isolate your neutral compound.
