Isolation (Recovery)

After successful separation of the components of a mixture, how will you recover each original compound from its chemically altered form?

In the previous section ("chemically active extraction") you have learned how to separate a compound class from other compounds using chemically active extractions. You can separate four different classes of compounds from a mixture based on differing solubility properties. The four classes are:
 
Amine (organic base), carboxylic acid (strong acid), phenol (weak acid), and neutral compound.
