Isolation (Recovery)
After successful
separation of the components of a mixture, how will you recover
each original compound from its chemically altered form?
- In the previous section ("chemically active extraction") you have
learned how to separate a compound class from other compounds
using chemically active extractions. You can separate four different
classes of compounds from a mixture based on differing solubility
properties. The four classes are:
-
- Amine
(organic base), carboxylic acid (strong acid), phenol
(weak acid), and neutral compound.
-
- Here is a summary of a scheme of a step
wise separation, starting from a solution in an organic solvent.
