Isolation (Recovery)

After successful separation of the components of a mixture, how will you recover each original compound from its chemically altered form?

In the previous section ("chemically active extraction") you learned how to separate a compound of a specific solubility class from other compounds using chemically active extractions. You can separate four different classes of compounds from a mixture based on differing solubility properties. The four classes are:
  1. Amines (organic base)
  2. Carboxylic acids (strong acid)
  3. Phenols (weak acid)
  4. Neutral compounds.
