There are 3 cubic (isometric) lattices. These are:

  1. Simple cubic
  2. Body-centred cubic
  3. Face-centred cubic
The following salts are based on the face-centred cubic lattice:
  1. Zinc sulfide
    S2- anions occupy all 14 of the fcc lattice points, and Zn2+ cations occupy 4 of the 8 tetrahedral holes.
  2. Sodium chloride
    Ions of one type occupy all 14 fcc lattice points and all octahedral holes are filled by ions of the other type.
