Fall 2008 Survey

Did you enjoy your Chem 10X lab? If yes, you agree with 77.8 % of our students.
During the Oct 27 - Nov 7 period, 2357 students ( out of an initial course enrollment of 2679 ) were surveyed. There were 1579 respondents in Chem 101, 166 in Chem 102/5 and 612 in Chem 103. Student responses to the following statements follow.
- "The lab was an enjoyable experience".
- In Chem 101, which is a required course for most of the students in it, the response was:
- Agree or strongly agree 78.7 %
- Disagree or strongly disagree 5.0 %
- In Chem 103, which is limited to engineering students and is a required course for all students in it,
the response was:
- Agree or strongly agree 79.0 %
- Disagree or strongly disagree 4.5 %
- In the off-sequence Chem 102/105, which is a required course for most of the students in it,
the response was:
- Agree or strongly agree 65.8 %
- Disagree or strongly disagree 7.5 %
- Using all responses gives:
- Agree or strongly agree 77.8 %
- Disagree or strongly disagree 5.0 %
- a median value of 4.17 on the standard 5 point scale,
ranging from 1 = strongly disagree to 5 = strongly agree.
- "Laboratory assignments required a reasonable amount of time and effort".
- In Chem 101, the response was:
- Agree or strongly agree 84.5 %
- Disagree or strongly disagree 3.5 %
- In Chem 103, the response was:
- Agree or strongly agree 85.2 %
- Disagree or strongly disagree 1.5 %
- In Chem 102/5, the response was:
- Agree or strongly agree 80.2 %
- Disagree or strongly disagree 4.9 %
- "My TA speaks clearly and understandably".
- In Chem 101, the response was:
- Agree or strongly agree 65.9 %
- Disagree or strongly disagree 13.4 %
- In Chem 103, the response was:
- Agree or strongly agree 90.4 %
- Disagree or strongly disagree 1.8 %
- In Chem 102/5, the response was:
- Agree or strongly agree 71.1 %
