- Lab attendance is mandatory. If absent for acceptable reasons, contact Dr. Norman Gee as soon as possible. See the Lab manual (p. 19) for absences from the lab.
- For the September to December 2010 term, Chem 103 odd sections, i.e. N01, Q01, F01, T01, U01 etc. start in the week of September 13. Chem 103 even sections, i.e. N02, N04, Q02, Q04, etc. start the week of September 20. Chem 101, 102 and 105 labs start the week of September 27.
Complete schedules for each course are in the Laboratory Manual, and here for Chem 101, Chem 102, Chem103, and Chem 105.
- You must purchase the appropriate 2010/11 Lab Manual from the University Bookstore. You cannot do the lab without a lab manual. As there will likely be no spots for makeups, you will get a zero for the lab if you do not show up or show up without a lab manual.
Before your first lab period, carry out the instructions for the first lab period on page 13, and Experiment A (Chem 101 / 103) or read Experiment M (Chem 102 / 105).
Note that there is a Prelab Assignment that must be submitted at the start of the lab period, as you enter the lab.
- Safety glasses must be worn at all times in the lab. This includes Check-in and Check-out. You should get a comfortable, light weight pair like those sold through the Undergraduate Chemistry Storeroom (E2-29, Second Floor, Chemistry East). If you wear prescription glasses, you must obtain and wear the kind that fits over your prescription glasses.
- During Check-in, ensure that all equipment is present and in good condition since you will be charged for damaged or missing equipment at Check-out.
- Report sheets are required for each experiment and must be done in ink. They are due according to the following schedule:

- There is a Lab Exam at the end of the term. If you did all of the labs, then the mark for the Lab Exam is worth 10.5% of the overall course mark for Chem 101/102 or 9.5% for Chem 103/105. For Chem. 101/102 , the overall lab mark (which includes the lab exam mark) will form 25% of your overall course mark. For Chem. 103/105, the overall lab mark will form 20% of your overall course mark.
- Academic offenses are covered in section 30 of the GFC Policy Manual (Code of Student Behaviour).
