Welcome to the Chem 10X Laboratories. We are located on the second floor of the Gunning/Lemieux Chemistry Centre. This is what most of our Lab Rooms look like.

Questions concerning the Introductory University Chemistry courses ( Chem 101, 102, 103, 105 ) may be directed to the Course Coordinator, Dr Yoram Apelblat (Chem West room W4-67B, e-mail, phone 780-248-1500).

Questions concerning the Chem 10X laboratories may be directed to Dr. Norman Gee , the Laboratory Coordinator (Chem East room E2-34B, e-mail , phone 780-492-3438).

Did you know that use of the title "Professional Chemist" is legally protected in Alberta?

WARNING: Absence from Exams
It is in your interest to read and to be familiar with University policies on absences from exams (Calendar, sec 23.5.6). Note that
H1N1 Flu?
Telephone advice from Alberta Health Services is available by phoning 780-408-5465 (Edm) or 1-866-408-5465 . If there is a possibility that you have H1N1, you might be told to stay home 7 days. Simply email me this information if you are going to miss a lab. You will not do a makeup but the wt will go on the end of term lab exam.

The directive from the Univerisity is given here.

Note though item 7 of that directive: "Instructors and Faculty Offices will retain the discretion to grant or not grant an excused absence for term work or examinations, but no refusal may be made on the basis of the absence of medical documentation alone."

This means that your actions must be consistent with your statements. For example, if you miss a lab at 8am b/c you've caught the flu, you cannot be writing an exam at (say)11am or the next day, or attending a different lab, or be in classes or out working at Java Jive. If you have three exams in two days, you cannot ask to be excused or defer one of them and then write the others.

Information about Univ clinics are here.

If you enjoyed your labs this term, you agree with 74.6% of your classmates. Other lab survey results are shown here.

The Lec/Lab Help sessions will go to extended hours starting Mon Sept 21.

There is a new textbook this year: Chemistry, 5th ed by M.S. Silberberg. The exception is Chem 102/5 for Sept-Dec 2009 will stay with last year's text, Petrucci 9th ed. If you need a copy of Petrucci, just put an ad on the bulletin boards. There are THOUSANDS of used copies of Petrucci that folks would be delighted to unload.

There is a Chem 10X on-line Lab Help site.

Chris Grant in the help room recommends the "Just Ask Antoine" site for common questions.

You might have noticed that there are a LOT of you in general chem 10X this term. Currently (Aug 09), there are 2877 folks registered. The number of students registered (Sept after the add/delete) over the last 10 years is shown in this graph:

As a result, there might be NO room for any makeups.
